3rd Trimester – week 40

At this stage, your baby is about 51 cm long (the size of a Pumpkin) and weighs around 3–3.7 kg.

The baby’s skull still has soft spots called fontanelles that allow flexibility during birth. The back one closes at 3–4 months, while the front one closes between 8–15 months.

Your pediatrician will perform the Apgar test at 1 and 5 minutes after birth to assess breathing, heartbeat, skin color, movement, and reflexes.

The baby’s skin may look red, dry, or peeling, especially if overdue, because the protective waxy coating (vernix) has worn off.

Baby movements remain noticeable until birth. Contact your doctor if you feel a sudden drop in activity.
