At 31 weeks, your baby continues to grow and develop rapidly. The Length is around 41 cm, about the size of a coconut or a bunch of asparagus. The weight is between 1.6 and 1.8 kg and could reach up to 2.4 kg by full term.
Baby development
At this point, all five senses are fully developed:
- Baby can now open and close his eyes.
- The pupils respond to light; if you shine a flashlight on your belly, the baby might move in response.
- Your baby recognizes familiar voices, including yours and your partner’s.
- The brain is also forming essential neural connections, and the baby has started to regulate their body temperature.
Because the newborns can’t shiver to warm up, your baby will depend on brown fat stores to stay warm after birth. Right now, their body temperature tends to be slightly higher than yours due to a fast metabolism.
