What is the difference between punishment and discipline?

Discipline is teaching the child how to behave properly and responsibly to build a strong and independent personality, not just correcting behavior when mistakes occur. Discipline helps the child understand the consequences of their actions, take healthy decisions without constant supervision, and promotes self-control instead of fear.

Punishment focuses on past mistakes and may use hurtful actions or words, leading to fear and resentment rather than teaching the child what to do in the future. The goal of discipline is to teach the child proper behavior in a positive and respectful way.
