2nd Trimester – week 17

Your baby experiences a growth spurt this week. By Week 17, the baby is around 14 cm long, about the size of a pomegranate, and weighs approximately 140 grams or more.

This week, fat tissue begins to form, sweat glands develop, and your baby’s reflexes become more responsive. The sense of hearing improves significantly, and fingerprints start forming.

The umbilical cord – which delivers nutrients from the placenta and removes waste from the baby, continues to grow – now measuring about 19 to 24 inches in length, with a slight increase in thickness as well.
