2nd Trimester – week 16

Week 16 marks a growth spurt for your baby, As the nervous system develops further, your baby can now move arms and legs more freely, even clench tiny fists.

At this stage, your baby is about 12 cm long and weighs between 75 and 99 grams, about the size of an avocado.

Your baby’s eyes and ears are moving into their final positions. Hearing improves as tiny bones in the ears develop. The eyes also become more sensitive to light and can move side to side, even though they remain closed.

The urinary and circulatory systems are becoming more efficient. The heart is now pumping around 23 liters of blood each day, a number that will gradually increase to about 1,800 liters daily by week 40.

The baby’s head is becoming more upright, and hair follicles are beginning to form on the scalp.
