2nd Trimester – week 14

Noticing a shift in your mood?

Don’t be surprised! It’s completely normal. Your hormones are beginning to stabilize, and the worst of the nausea and fatigue may be behind you. That’s why many refer to this stage as the “honeymoon phase” of pregnancy.

Now’s the perfect time to take care of yourself and your skin. Avoid harsh skincare products or anything from unreliable sources, as some ingredients can be absorbed into your bloodstream and reach your baby.

You may also experience light varicose veins or swelling in your legs, or nasal congestion caused by increased blood flow to the mucous membranes throughout your body.

Week 14 Tips

  • Ensure you’re getting enough calcium from foods like milk, almonds, sesame seeds, leafy greens, and broccoli. Adequate calcium helps prevent pregnancy-related complications and bone loss.
  • Follow a balanced, nutrient-rich diet. From week 14 onward, doctors generally recommend gaining around one pound (400 grams) per week if you have a normal BMI.

To relieve nasal congestion, you can try the following tips:

  • Use a saline nasal spray to help clear your nasal passages naturally.
  • Sleep with your head slightly elevated using an extra pillow to ease breathing at night.
  • Stay well-hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids throughout the day.
  • Apply warm compresses to your face to relieve or prevent sinus pressure.
  • Use a humidifier while sleeping to ease breathing.
  • Avoid using over-the-counter decongestants, unless advised by your healthcare provider.
