2nd Trimester – Week 13

By week 13, your baby is about the size of a peach, weighing about 22 grams, and measuring about 7 cm.

Your baby’s vocal cords are starting to form and their head, which now makes up around one-third of their entire body length, is becoming more proportionate.

The intestines have now relocated to their correct location in the abdomen after growing inside the umbilical cord. Additionally, the placenta is developing to produce nutrients and oxygen for the baby.

Amniotic fluid is now safe for your baby to swallow and even urinate into. In the meantime, meconium, a sticky waste product, is beginning to build up in their intestines and will be expelled after birth.

The skin is gradually thickening, tooth buds are becoming denser, and bones, particularly the skull and long bones, are starting to harden.
