1st Trimester – Week 10

Your baby is growing fast, doubling in size every week! From just an inch last week, your baby now measures between 1.2 and 1.5 inches (3–4 cm) and weighs around 7 grams.

The head becomes more rounded, and the forehead more prominent, giving the brain space to grow. The head now makes up about half the length of the baby’s body.

Facial features are becoming more defined: the outer ears are forming, the nostrils are visible, and the jaw and upper lip are taking shape. Tooth buds are beginning to develop, and the eyes, which are now half closed, can respond to light.

Major organs such as the lungs, heart, arms, and legs continue to develop. The baby’s heart rate is about 180 beats per minute, nearly three times that of an adult.

Your baby’s hands and feet are fully formed, and the fingers and toes are no longer webbed. Nails are beginning to grow, and bones and cartilage are developing. Your baby can now bend their elbows voluntarily.

And here’s the best part: the external genitalia are starting to form, so you’ll soon be able to find out your baby’s gender via ultrasound, just a few more weeks to go.
