1st Trimester – Week 4

At this early stage, the embryo is made up of two layers: the ectoderm and endoderm. These cells will eventually develop into the baby’s organs and tissues.

The embryo is about the size of a poppy seed (Less than 2 mm) an is enclosed in an amniotic sac filled with amniotic fluid that protects it from external shocks. It is also connected to the yolk sac, which provides essential nutrients until the placenta forms and takes over this role.
