Is white noise safe for babies?

White noise can be safe for babies if used correctly and moderately, provided the sound level does not exceed 50 decibels (equivalent to the sound of a quiet conversation). For proper use, follow these guidelines:

  • Place the white noise machine at least 2 meters away from the baby.
  • Use the lowest volume that still provides a calming effect.
  • Do not keep the machine on all day. Use it only during naps or bedtime to help the baby sleep.
  • Do not place the device inside the crib or near the baby’s head.
  • Choose a constant, steady sound that does not interfere with the baby’s hearing development.
