How do I manage my child’s eczema at home?

Eczema is a common skin condition that appears as dryness, itching, redness, and irritation of the skin. To relieve it, you can follow these steps:

  • Bathe your child daily or every other day with lukewarm water for a short duration (5–10 minutes) and avoid scented soaps.
  • Dry the skin gently without rubbing.
  • Moisturize the skin using thick, fragrance-free creams or ointments (avoid light lotions or scented creams).
  • Avoid hot water during bathing. Apply moisturizer immediately after bathing while the skin is still damp. Reapply moisturizer twice daily or more to keep the skin hydrated.

Clothing and Environment Care:

  • Dress your child in 100% cotton soft clothing.
  • Use fragrance-free laundry detergent and avoid fabric softeners.
  • Trim your child’s nails regularly to reduce scratching.
  • Keep your child away from dust, animals, strong scents, hot places, or wool clothing.
  • Use cotton gloves at night to prevent scratching, which reduces skin damage and infection.
