The normal temperature range for children is between 36.5°C and 37.5°C. A child is considered febrile when the temperature rises to 38°C or more.
The method of measuring temperature varies depending on the child’s age as follows:
- Rectal measurement: most accurate, recommended up to age 3 years.
- Ear measurement: after 6 months of age.
- Oral measurement: for children above 4 years.
- Axillary measurement: least accurate and not recommended for use.
